Don’t believe everything that you hear! Why? Because some of what you are hearing may or may not be true. Okay? Are you scratching your head wondering what I am talking about? I am talking about those old business myths that could be hurting your prosperity!
What are some common myths that might be hurting your prosperity?
1. You have to have the talent for success in business. Well, talent is a nice thing to have. Yet, there is something more important than talent. Having the right skills can take your business to a higher level than talent. So, make it a point to acquire the skills that you need to prosper in your store. As your business grows, then look for ways to outsource or delegate small tasks. In this way, you are freed up to continue to grow and develop your business.
2. You have to have results right now. Results can take time. What do you do in the meantime? You can create a business plan (a.k.a. action plan) of income-producing activities to drive results your way. Of course, you have to track those activities to be sure that they are producing your desired results. If those activities are not cutting the mustard, then it is time to back up and regroup.
3. You have to have money to go into business. You do have to cash available to invest in a company. However, that business may or may not look like a traditional storefront. There are plenty of business opportunities out there. A home business might start out as a side gig. Then, the side gig could grow into a full-time business. Get yourself a coach or mentor. Find someone who is where you want to be. Learn all you can from that person. You can shortcut your learning curve with the right coach or mentor.
4. You have to have a business degree or a specialized certificate. Education is a good thing. Yet, you don’t have to a business degree to be successful and prosperous in business. My uncle had limited formal education. As a young man, he found strong business mentors. He learned everything that he possibly could from these mentors. Through astute planning and hard work, he built a successful business that has continued with his children and grandchildren. He was not afraid to take a calculated risk and did not allow his lack of formal education to stand in his way. Passion and drive can take your business to the next level.
Move Beyond Myths
These are a few myths that can hold people back from excelling in business. There are many more. Bottom line, believe in yourself and your dreams. Give those dreams legs. You might just surprise yourself where you can go!
