Is Email Dead?


Is email dead? This question bothers me. I have struggled with the value of emailing a list. I thought to myself, ” Why waste my time? No one reads email anymore.” thought to myself, ” Why waste my time? No one reads email anymore.”

One of my mentors challenged me to start emailing a newsletter to my leads and clients regularly. I was so skeptical that anyone would open that emailed newsletter. Why would anyone want to read an email from me? To please my mentor, I did it anyway.

Oh boy, did I get a surprise? People on my lead did open up my emailed newsletter. What more, they went to my e-store and made purchases.

Eating Crow

Now, I am eating crow. Email dead? Nope, my mentor reinforced the idea that people buy and join from others that they know, like, and trust. One way of building that trust factor is through regular emails.

So, I am a believer. This person plans on using an emailed newsletter regularly. It is straightforward.

Newsletter Is the Key

Software apps such as Constant Contact or Mail Chimp make the process so simple. It is just a matter of following the instruction to ingrate your lead or customer lists. Then, complete the process of setting up a newsletter template that you plan to use regularly. There are tutorials on how to set up the email list, mailing templates, and campaigns in each app.

I have tried both Constant Contact and Mail Chimp. Usually, Constant Contact has a free trial period and then the option to purchase a plan based on your needs. Mail Chimp is free until your emailing list hits 2000 participants; then you have the choice to upgrade based your needs.

I highly encourage to get started with an emailed newsletter to your leads or clients. Who knows? You might get a pleasant surprise, too! Email dead? I don’t think so.

  1. I remember an old work boss telling me that email was a thing of the past. Man, was he wrong; he was more into social media/texting, which for a small, brick and mortar gym sufficed. However, I think having a nice email list is still the best way to market. You don’t need to rely on simply generating new traffic and maintaining it with a list of email addresses. Those on your list are always interested in your next product and it gives you a steady flow of customers without having to continually find new ones.
